Safe Choice

3 Apr

I love traveling, often I find myself alone in a new city exploring its local eateries and pubs on my own. This weekend I was in Berkeley and the first day started off great. I had a house beer at a local brewer, then headed over to the famous Cheese Board for some pizza and live jazz, topping off the meal with some local made gelato from this place called Lush. Today I went back to Shattuck and tried this tiny little sandwich place Gregoire on Cedar–cod and chorizzo sandwich was delicious! I felt like having a beer with it so I asked a fellow bicycle rider for a recommendation, he suggested Jupiter. So i headed towards it but biked past triple rock, the bar I had tried the other day, so I stopped in there instead. The beer was good, but when I got home I looked up Jupiter and it turns out they are a famous microbrewery. Now I long to know what their beer was like. But no regrets right?

So here is the lesson I learned, if you ask a local for a place they recommend, try it. For better or for worse, it’s a place they’ve been too and like, how bad could it be ? Sure my beer wasn’t terrible at the place I had already been to, but it was a “safe choice”, i’m in a new city why limit my self to someplace i’ ve already been?

Two things to take away from this experience:

1. Listen to the suggestions of locals when you ask for them.

2. Don’t be afraid to go to a new place when traveling, even if you liked a placed you already tried, be adventurous, you never know what you might find.

P.S. I didn’t get a picture of the sandwich I had from Gregoire’s because I was to hungry.

If you do have something in particular you want to advertise, like a 31mpg muscle car, here’s a great example of how to make it work:

Smooth Advertising

I love advertising, but I feel a great deal of what I see on TV seems more fit for radio than Talk, talk, talk, talk; some commerci als just tell me wh at a product does and really I already know the function of a car or body wash. When a commercial gives me a feeling, creates a certain mood or has something that I can’t quite put my finger on–that feeling that maybe I’m a little like what that commercial represents–I want that product. Here are some examples of commercials representing what I mean:
